Stephanie J. Block

Put this one on your playlist if you're thinking about a breakup with your significant other! "Get Out and Stay Out" is the showstopper from the 2009 Broadway musical "Nine to Five" based on the 1980 movie of the same name. Stephanie J. Block plays Judy and belts out this song written by Dolly Parton, one of many new songs she wrote for the show.

The musical was nominated for four Tony Awards but ran for only four months on Broadway before going on a national tour. And it's on its way to a UK tour. Just like the movie, the show is fun; I saw it in a regional theater last weekend in upstate New York.

So why did I list The Wizard of Oz as one of the keywords for this video? While watching the play I saw some similarities. Judy (the Jane Fonda character in the film) starts out timid and cowardly and develops the COURAGE to leave her philandering husband. Doralee (the Dolly Parton character) shows that she really has a BRAIN (that no one could see because her large chest got in the way). Violet (the Lily Tomlin character) is a tough, hard-working, but unappreciated businesswoman with no personal life who finds her HEART. Just like the lion, the scarecrow, and the tinman in The Wizard of Oz, right? I'm surprised the cast didn't break out in a little "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
