"As Time Goes By" is one of the most recognized film melodies in the world. Written by Herman Hupfeld in 1931, it is Number 2 on the American Film Institute's list of 100 Years...100 Songs.
The most famous version is Dooley Wilson for the movie Casablanca. In today's selection Harry Nilsson sings the standard for creation of his 1973 studio album "A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night." Gordon Jenkins (Frank Sinatra's arranger) conducted for this album which was a collection of standands - long before this was a popular practice. Other songs on the playlist include Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Makin' Whoopee, It Had to be You, and You Made Me Love You.
Nilsson did not do concerts. He is perhaps most known for his Grammy-winning performance of "Everybody's Talkin'" for the movie Midnight Cowboy. He was also noted as a singers' song-writer, much admired by John Lennon. He passed away in 1994, but his original songs and covers survive on the soundtracks of many favorite movies.
