In this film inspired by the Genesis book of the bible, Joseph, son of Jacob, has escaped near fratricide and become successful in Egypt. His brothers back in Canaan, suffering from drought and famine, travel to Egypt to grovel before the Pharaoh for support. Joseph plants a golden goblet in the sack of Benjamin, the youngest of the brothers.
Judah (Gerry McIntyre) is trying to save Benjamin (Nick Holmes) from the wrath of their not-yet-recognized brother Joseph (Donny Osmond). As a wandering Jew from Canaan, it's only natural that he would slip into a bouncy Calypso beat, right?
A 1971 record release (yes, back in the days before CDs) featured lyricist Tim Rice as the Pharaoh and composer Lloyd Webber on the organ. Over 20,000 school and amateur groups have put on this sung-through musical!
