In a battle of the sexes, Conrad (Jesse Pearson), Kim (Ann-Margaret), Hugo (Bobby Rydell), and a score of dancers express their youthful exuberance in this 1963 film of the musical Bye Bye Birdie. Conrad Birdie is an Elvis-style heartthrob who is heading off to military service and will be giving one last kiss to a randomly selected fan--Kim. But Kim's new boyfriend Hugo is quite jealous. They break up but continue to care for each other (and will reunite by the end of the movie).
Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh also star in the film, with several catchy song and dance numbers. Ann-Margret became an instant star with this role, moving to her next film appearing with the real Elvis. Bobby Rydell was already a real teen heartthrob - and has continued performing through 2011.
