This song comes from the 1950 musical "Guys and Dolls." Frank Loesser wrote the music and lyrics for this show with book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, based on characters and themes from the great Damon Runyon Pulitzer Prize-winning story.
Gary Wilmot sings the beautiful statement of love from gambler Sky Masterton who has fallen in love with Sergeant Sarah Brown (Barbara Dickson) of the Save-A-Soul Mission. This is a life-changing moment for Sky, but the play provides several more hurdles for the lovers to overcome before they live happily ever after.
Barbara Dickson is well-known in the British music world. She performed on the cast album of Chess (see her in another Great Show Tune on the site) and was the original lead in Blood Brothers. Gary Wilmot came to theatre at the late age of 35 in Me and My Girl and has gone on to perform in several Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, Oliver!, and Chicago.
