Once again Peter Allen shows what a truly entertaining entertainer he is. Here he performs a song he and Carole Bayer Sager wrote, "Everything Old is New Again." It's easy to imagine this song as a catchy little number on the piano, as Allen presents at the start of the video, but who would ever expect the grand finale with Allen centering the Rockettes in a high kick line?
The song became part of the Bob Fosse semi-autobiographical musical film "All That Jazz," which is number 14 on the American Film Institute's list of Greatest Movie Musicals. It was nominated for nine Oscars and won four, including Best Original Score.
See Anne Reinking (Fosse's girlfriend) and Erzsebet Foldi doing some Fosse choreography to Allen's vocal rendition of "Everything Old is New Again" in the film in this Great Show Tunes Bonus. Roy Scheider plays the beleagured Broadway director/choreographer.
